I’m a journalist with more than a decade reporting, producing, writing and editing for podcasts, radio, television, and print. I have a passion for news – particularly public service journalism – and I’ve covered public education and the social safety net all across the United States. But I’ve also written, produced, and edited work on subjects as race, pop culture, fashion, and the criminal justice system.

I also love to share and talk about the things I’m reading, watching, and thinking about. That’s why I started my newsletter, The Walz Electric, where I share reflections on books, television and film, philosophy, culture, and politics. You can sign up to get my emails here.

I grew up in Richmond, Virginia, and have lived, worked, and studied all over the United States – in Chicago, Washington, D.C., New York City, Atlanta, and Denver, before I landed in Southern California. I’m a graduate of Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism and the University of Chicago.

Say hi!
